Invitations

I took a picture of Buzz Lightyear and made bookmarks.  I embellished them with cosmic confetti and laminated them.  I added "Made in honor of _________ 's 2nd Birthday, August 2, 2003 ."

Decorations

I bought paper products and related decorations on clearance from the Disney Store in and made several items myself using the Disney Print Studio software.  We had one giant Buzz Lightyear Mylar balloon which really set the theme as I suspended foil stars in a variety of sizes from the ceiling. I also saved some empty soda bottles.  Filled them with water/oil and colored the mixture with food coloring.  Then I added some galaxy confetti inside. I glued the tops shot as used these swirling mini galaxies as my centerpieces -- they also made great balloon weights. At least for a few hours our house felt like it was in another galaxy.

Costumes

I dressed both of my boys in Buzz Lightyear t-shirts and gave Buzz t-shirts out as favors ($2.50 each at K-mart). I always remember my child's birthday with an adult favor as well.

Food

Cake: We had our local grocery store bake a Buzz Lightyear Cake which looked like he was walking on the moon and I used a clock like countdown candle to continue the outerspace theme.  I served ice cream and a fruit platter to cater to the adults.

Drinks: Kids were given juice in the foil pouches to add to the cosmic feel.

Party Favors

The goody bags were filled with Toy Story/Outer Space related treats.  As this was August, we had a Buzz Lightyear sprinkler from the Disney store for the kids to run around under outside.  I used inexpensive star Mylar balloons to be sent home with each child, along with a couple of Toy Story Balloons.

Games and Activities

At the party we played (1) Buzz Light Year Bingo which came from the Disney store.  I laminated this game, and we still use it. I had lottery tickets if an adult won, a matchbox car if a child won.  Then I had a (2) pin the hat on Buzz game with a small Buzz Lightyear figure for a prize -- dealing with 2 and 3 year-olds so everyone always wins a prize; (3) Reach to Infinity and beyond game where I covered a cardboard box with aluminum foil, and added sparkle outerspace confetti on the outside.  I then cut out 3 holes in the top which the kids could put their hands through. The box was filled with shredded black construction paper and prizes, so they literally reached "to Infinity and Beyond." I included some laminated pictures of planets so they drew until they got a prize.  Prizes included Buzz Lightyear gummies, Toy Story Stickers, and Glow in the Dark Stars. (4) I bought duck pond ducks from the Oriental Trading company. I put them in a big tub with a picture of Buzz Lightyear on it and called it "Buzz Lightyear's Cosmic Space Ducks." I placed Buzz Lightyear stickers on the bottom of some of the ducks. Get a duck with a sticker on the bottom, get a prize. For older kids you could add cosmic confetti to the water or glow in the dark stars to the water. (5) In each invitation I included a picture of Buzz Lightyear to be colored.  The children colored the picture ahead of time and were given a prize at the beginning when they arrived of the toy story car -- like a matchbox.  I bought blue metallic wine bottle gift bags from the dollar store (2 for $l) and decorated them with toy story stickers.
