Home and Local Pond

I searched around at a few different craft stores until I found a material that had a little boy fishing. I wrote on the invitation, “Steve is fishing for friends to help celebrate his 6 th birthday. Join us for fun and fishing.” Fortunately we live right next to a local park that has a nice pond for fishing.

I didn’t purchase a lot of decorations, just a few table cloths, streamers and balloons. Very cost effective party!

Food: We just served snacks, like gummy worms, gold fish, gummy sharks, fruit snacks and a couple others.
Cake: I made a large sheet cake and iced it blue. For a cake topper, I used a boat that had a man in it. I also had a few fish which I pushed into the cake to make it look like they were jumping out of the water. It looked pretty good.

I was caught in between buying each child $10 worth of junk or purchasing them a nice fishing pole to use at the pond. So I decided to buy a fishing pole for each child and it probably turned out cheaper than buying party bags and entertainment.

We played a few games at the house before venturing over to the pond. Our first game was a bean bag toss. I painted a fish with his mouth open on a piece of plywood. I cut his mouth out to leave an opening for the bean bag. The game was a lot of fun. The next game was guess how many gummy worms are in a jar. The winner got to keep all the worms and jar. After our last game, we took the children over to the pond. We used simple bait like hot dogs and corn. That way the children could do their own hook. And we were lucky enough to catch 8 fish, which we let go after catching. The kids had a blast because for most of them this was their first time fishing. We took lots of pictures to send in the Thank You cards.

I sent thank you notes out about 2 weeks after the party. They read, “A fishing we did go. A Fishing we did go. Hi ho the fishing hole. A fishing we did go. The fish we did catch. The fish we did catch. Hi ho the fishing hole. The fish we did catch. The fun we did have. The fun we did have. Hi ho the fishing hole. The fun we did have. A thank you we do send. A thank you we do send. Hi ho the fishing hole. A thank you we do send.” I also included a picture of the children catching a fish.
