But before we get started, take a look at this great party pack. It includes just about everything for you Mermaid Child Theme Party.

Now it’s time to plan the Ultimate Child Theme Party, but where do you have it? There are so many options and picking the “right” one can be very difficult for some people. Just remember, as long as your child’s family and friends are there, the location really doesn’t matter to them. So pick somewhere that is convenient and easy for you to setup and clean up in a minimal amount of time…
* Ariel's Grotto: Here is a great idea for you party location. How about bringing a little bit of Ariel's home to yours? Now how could you do that? You don't live in the sea do you? Anyways, with a little decorating, music, food, etc, your child won't even recognize the difference. Don't worry, this won't be overwhelming, because with the hints from this site the transformation process should be pretty simple. So check out the decorations section for ideas on how to transform your house into Ariel's Grotto. To get started now, I would suggest checking out our selection of Clip Art and Coloring Pages. You will find so much information you won't be able to use it all!!! Now what are the benefits of having a party at your home? You might be thinking NO WAY!!! But wait, first I know you won’t forget any crucial party items at your home (e.g. piñata bat). Second, that reservation won’t get screwed up…because you are already there! Finally, you know where everything is, how convenient. Now don’t get me wrong, you do run the risk of damage and such, but weigh the benefits and risks and pick what’s best for you!
* Ariel's Day at the Water Park: This is another excellent location for the party theme. Make a list of all the local parks/water parks in the area and write down the key features of each one. For example, how much area is available? is there a playground? trash can availability? Bathrooms? covered areas? Capacity of park? etc. You don’t want to show up at an overcrowded park, with no playground or bathrooms and it starts to rain. Spend some time in selecting the right park and I guarantee your party will run a lot smoother.
* Ariel's Day Out (Prince Eric's Palace): Want to take Ariel and your child out on the town or maybe to Prince Eric's palace? How about renting an establishment to have the party? A lot of locations will provide you with invitations, discounts on food, a cake, etc. Make sure you find a decent place that provides you with enough stuff to balance out the cost. Don’t be afraid to ask for food discounts and other items, you will be surprised on what they will offer, but only if you ask!

Mermaid Invitation or Mermaid Birthday Invitation
* Invitation Help: As you start to create this invitation masterpiece, don't forget to check out the Mermaid clip art for lots of different pictures. They will help you design the inside and out. Good Luck!
* Party Slogan: Before we get into the designing process, why don’t you pick out a party slogan? Pick something that your party will be developed around. Here are a few ideas to help you:
1. Under the Sea Adventure
2. Have a Whale of a Time at "child's name" party!
3. Take the Plunge!
Before we get started, I have listed a few ideas on the design of the invitation and then I will give ideas on what to say inside.
* Mermaid Invitation #1: Send a message in a bottle from under the sea! To start, roll the invitation up, and tie it with a small piece of green (seaweed) curling ribbon or raffia. Add the invite to an empty water bottle. Add about 4 tablespoons of sand to each bottle, and a few small seashells.
* Mermaid Invitation #2: Color copy different sea fish from either the internet or magazines, cut and mount them on coordinating card stock. Print all of the party info on the back and mail them out.
* Mermaid Invitation #3: First, collect small used water bottles, wash and dry them and remove the labels. You can use Goo B Gone to get rid of all the sticky adhesive. Print up personalized invitations using our mermaid clip art. Roll the invitation into a narrow tube, tie it with some curling ribbon and insert it into the empty water bottle. Then add fish-shaped confetti and close the cap. On the outside of the bottle apply mermaid stickers as well as other glittery fish stickers.
* Mermaid Invitation #4: This invitation is made with white paper, finger-painted with blue sparkle paint, cut into squares and glued onto light blue construction paper folded into cards. A mermaid sticker on top of the finger-painted piece completes the outside of the card. Inside you can write the particulars in a rhyme.
* Here is a list of sayings you could include in your party invitations *
A message in a bottle for _________. Ariel invites you to (child's name) birthday party on (date) at (time).
Little Mermaid SLUMBER PARTY My house, (time) Love, (child's name)
P.S. Bring your sleeping bag, Little Mermaid dolls, and your favorite
Then on the bottom it said, "tapes!"
The tail fin reads, "come for oceans of fun!!

Picking out, setting up and fine tuning the decorations can be a long tedious process. But, there is hope, because with a little planning and creativity, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of the party. I have compiled ideas that start with the outside decorations and finishes with the inside decorations. You can use all, some or none of the ideas, but no matter which ones you choose, they will help you turn your party location into the Ultimate Party Location.
First, let's start with the outdoor decorations:
Attach a bouquet of helium filled balloons to a light post or mailbox so there will be no mistaking where the fun will be that day!
Hang Die Cut Green Vines (seaweed), Clear Balloon bubble strands, and some Fish overhead in the area where the children will enter the party.
Check out this awesome Giant Octopus Standee that will be waiting to wrap his arms around all the children entering the party! You could also use this for lots of photos with the children.
Use blue sidewalk chalk to draw red waves and other ocean items up the driveway and to the front door.
Use aqua netting to make an archway for your front door.
Put a bubble blower outside the front door to make it look like you are going under water…
Now, let’s move inside the party location and decorate…
Let’s start with the simple decorating. Tie helium balloons of different shades of red, blue, yellow, black or white in clusters of 3 or 5 to the back of chairs or tucked into corners. Don't forget to tie a bunch of balloons to the birthday child’s chair. If you choose not to use helium, tie balloons to varying lengths of curling ribbon, and hang them from the ceiling or from light fixtures throughout the house.
Here is a great selection of different mylar balloons: Ariel, Disney Princesses and a Prismatic Fish.
Next, let’s move on to another simple, yet familiar decorating item, Streamers. Streamers offer an economical way to splash lots of color around the site of the party. Create a fun and colorful effect by draping rainbow colored metallic streamers from the center of the ceiling to the walls on each side of the room. The streamers can be twisted after they are anchored to a ceiling wall or table for a more dimensional look. Two different colored streamers can be placed back to back and twisted for a unique look. After you are done, it should look like a spiral rainbow above the room! They also look terrific hanging from doorframes or cascading vertically down walls.
Don’t forget to hand fish from the streamers. This effect is awesome and the children will love it!
Take fish nets and hang them in the corners of the rooms. Also, you can hang fish, crab and lobsters in the corner.
Blow up clear white balloons in x-small, small, and medium sizes tie the balloons together in a long straight line. Use about 15 balloons for each line. Hang the balloons from the ceiling on either side of the table. When you do this it looks like bubbles. You can also use clown balloons in blue, green, and yellow
to make it look like sea weed. Place shells, beach buckets, a small beach balland and blue material around the balloons to represent the beach and water.
Another great idea is to print out some great pictures from our Mermaid Clip Art Page. Have them laminated and place them around the party area.
Take blue crepe paper and hang it from the ceiling to give the wave effect and hang fish on that also.
Cover a wall with Dark Blue Water Gossamer, and add some undersea life for a truly magnificent under the ocean setting. An Orca Whale, a Gray Whale, Silver Porpoises, or Seaweed from this Deep Blue Destiny set, and sparkling Seahorses will transport children to a fantasy world that they won’t want to leave.
Tie huge bows with our dark blue water Gossamer across the top of each chair back. The bows can be cut to any length and even look great with tails trailing on the floor. Make bows to hang anywhere and everywhere…chairs, doorways, tree trunks, stair rails, deck posts, gift packages, or table-ends. The gossamer also looks terrific as a table cover, puddle around the base of other decorations, or hanging from a doorframe.
Take fish bowls and fill them with water. Add a little blue some blue dye and plastic fish.
Here is a great Mermaid Happy Birthday Banner for the party.
Put this Shells, Starfish and Flowers Paper Table Confetti all over the party tables.

The colors of the party should be pretty simple. I would stick with blue, white, green, pink or purple. After you have selected the party theme colors, decide on whether you will use either printed or solid color party tableware.
Here is a great selection of Mermaid child theme party tableware:
* Little Mermaid Luncheon Napkins
* Little Mermaid Dessert Napkins
* Little Mermaid Dinner plates
* Little Mermaid Dessert plates
* Little Mermaid Birthday Cups
* Little Mermaid Table cover
* Little Mermaid Blowouts
* Little Mermaid Party Hats
Going solo on your party theme? Can’t find any party theme tableware you like? Then take a look at the silverware, plates, napkins, etc in solid colors. You’re guaranteed to find a color that matches your theme.

Let those who’ve arrived early play with Bubbles while they wait for the other guests to arrive.
Don’t forget to check out the great collection of coloring pages I have compiled. A coloring activity is a great way to keep the children occupied until the party starts. Plus, you can send them home in their goody bag.
A simple game of Fish, Fish, Shark (i.e. duck, duck, goose) is a great ice breaker activity. You can keep adding children to the circle after they arrive. I have yet to find a child who doesn't like this game, it’s a classic!!!
Freeze Dance is another great game to get kids acquainted. The game doesn't require a certain number of kids, so they can join in as they arrive. Play the Little Mermaid soundtrack as the kids dance. If you stop the music, they must freeze. If they don’t freeze, they are out. The game restarts after all the children have been eliminated except one. Kids love to dance and play games, which makes this an Ultimate Ice Breaker Activity.
Have the children decorate a large birthday banner in honor of your child that says, “Happy Birthday, Name”. You can get a large roll of paper from a store like Target. Give the children crayons, stickers, and other such items to use.
Story time with puppet show: Make the puppets by printing characters off websites & laminating. Attach to Popsicle sticks.

Picking out the perfect food, refreshments, treats and cake should be a fun experience. Think of clever names for each item that relates back to the Mermaid theme. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Mermaid Child Theme Party Idea for Refreshments:
* Lemonade Drinks
* Here is an excellent Under the Sea Drink: Start by serving blue kool-aid to all the children. Before they drink it, add a few pop rocks to their glass. The pop rocks will begin to crackle and pop. What a hit
* You can serve the drinks that children love, such as, Capri Suns, Kool-Aid Koolers, Kool-Aid Jammers, boxed juice, etc.
Mermaid Child Theme Party Idea for Cake:
Deciding on whether you are going to make or buy the Ultimate cake is a tough decision. It mainly depends on how much time you have and how many guests are coming. I would suggest for a smaller party, you try and make that Ultimate cake. But if there is going to be a large number of guests, maybe a large cake made by the baker would be the best decision. It’s up to you, but here are some ideas on making an Ultimate Mermaid cake.
Sand Castle Cake: 2 to 4 layers of cake piled with frosting in the center. Frost the cake. Bake some of the cake mix in 4 ice cream cones. Put them on the 4 corners of the cake and frost them too. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs ('sand') over the entire thing.

Now the parties over, what do you do? Start planning the next one? Sure, but you don’t want to forget about the guests that helped you celebrate your child’s birthday. Make sure to send out some type of Thank You note. Whether it is store bought or hand made, just make sure to get it out no later than a week after the party. Also, if you took any pictures at the party, make sure to include one in each invitation. Any Thank You note you choose will end any Ultimate Mermaid Child Theme Party.
